About
Hope Overflowing
In 2002, Hope began with the vision to be a church of “real people looking to the real Jesus for real change.” Over the past 22 years, God has shaped us into a community where that ideal is embodied far beyond what we could have imagined. While many churches around the country have experienced decline, God has graciously continued to grow us as a community of people who are real with one another – real about our fears, our dreams, our failures, and our need for a redeemer. We have become a church where every Sunday morning, the person and work of Jesus is preached with a vulnerability and honesty that is winsome and powerful. God has used these two elements– Gospel Community and Gospel Preaching– to change people in remarkable ways.
- We’ve seen unchurched people hear the good news of God’s unmerited favor for the first time and begin following Jesus.
- We’ve known people who grew up in the church who have really understood grace for the first time, or have rediscovered the Gospel in a way that produced freedom, joy, and worship.
- We’ve watched the Gospel become real for people in the midst of betrayals, addictions, and profound loneliness and loss.
- We’ve walked with men and women who have experienced grace in ways that have freed them from the bondage and shame of sins that were kept hidden for years.
- We’ve heard numerous stories of people discovering the idols that control them and learning to depend on Jesus to give them life instead.
- We’ve received from God a rich gospel community, leaders who passionately and vulnerably point us to Jesus, and an opportunity to reach our urban and suburban neighbors with the Gospel.
Considering all that God is graciously doing in and through each of our three sites, it isn’t surprising that we are overflowing as a church. We are physically overflowing in our worship services and children’s ministry classrooms at our OP site, where visitors have a hard time finding a place to park and somewhere to sit. We are overflowing into our city, where lives are being changed through the community of Hope loving and serving the needs of others. We are overflowing into ministries and churches across the country and the world, where Hope’s grace-centered ministry model is having a powerful impact on hearts and lives!
As a result of the overflowing that is taking place into and out of Hope, the elders feel that the Lord is calling us to take intentional steps to continue participating in this great Kingdom work. As a church, we are going to embark on a One Fund initiative called “Hope Overflowing”. The heart behind this title and initiative comes from Romans 15:13 where we read, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
The Hope Overflowing initiative will enable more people to:
by creating larger spaces for community-building events, seminars, and our children to gather and experience community.
by reaching, equipping, and deploying more people to love and serve Charlotte, having greater space to offer our neighbors and ministry partners, and continuing to provide generous financial support for local ministries.
“Hope Overflowing” is a 24-month expanded giving initiative. We are asking everyone at Hope to prayerfully consider expanding their regular giving through March 2026 in order to invest in this vision. Our stated goal is ambitious: to finance the whole project without any debt. Based on our progress to date in the initiative, we are about halfway there! If you’d like to consider giving to the work the Lord is doing in and through Hope, please fill out a commitment card to indicate your giving to Hope.
As we continue to offer the hope found only in the Gospel of Jesus Christ to hurting people in our city, country, and the world, our prayer is that we will continue to overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. As a part of our community, you play a critical role in this great work. We hope that your experience of God’s grace will lead to deep gratitude and joyful generosity.
